Just when you thought vertebrates had total rule over the world...



We happened to catch a huge 12cm green mantid; no doubt female and in the prime of her life. We aptly named her queen victoria after she nipped my finger as we transferred her into her cage. Such is her power that she catches all six flies released into the enclosure within the minute, Gosh. Next time im going to introduce hoppers and if she can handle it, crickets. now crickets are the meanest of the lot; they bite at anything and will kill anything they cant eat. We'll see how victoria fares against these critters. Shes alot better than prince george, a weakling male we caught a month ago and died shortly after.
